The 2008 U.S. presidential election was historical for several reasons. The Obama campaign raised more money than any candidate in history and there was record voter turnout amongst African-Americans and Hispanics. It's estimated that 136.6 million Americans voted.

1) Barack Obama won 365 electoral votes and 53% of the popular vote to become the first African-American president of the United States of America. More than 69 million Americans cast their vote for the first time.
 
2) The Obama campaign’s unprecedented use of the Internet raised more than $500 million from 3 million people and 6.5 million donations. Of those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in increments of $100 or less.
 
3) Due to high security threats, President Obama’s historic acceptance speech at Grant Park in Chicago, IL was delivered behind two pieces of bulletproof glass measuring 2 inches thick, 10 feet tall and 15 feet long. The Obama campaign spent an estimated $2 million on the event.
